Laura Linney's performance of weak but strong characters has helped make her one of the top American actors. Her father was an acclaimed playwright. However, she was raised as a single child with a single mother and nurse. In the summer when she was with her father Linney discovered a love for the theatre. Linney eventually pursued acting initially through Brown University then at Juilliard School. Starting her acting career on the Broadway following her graduation, she debuted in film within two years, and then on television in the year after. Since then she has been involved in numerous films, television shows and stage performances. In her long professional career, she's received numerous awards. These include two Golden Globe Awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards as well as three Academy Award nominations and five Tony Award nominations. Despite her numerous accolades, she is still a lover of theatre and has appeared on stage and screen.
